WARNING!!! THIS IS NOT FOR THE FEINT HEARTED!!
this morning i had to go to the warehouse where all the copics are kept to get a few order together for customers, on my trip back i have to drive through an area that doesnt have the most savoury reputation. Anywho i was stopped by a traffic light that was red and i was one car back from the intersection and on a slight incline so i had my car in first gear riding the clutch.
All of a sudden an arm appears on edge of my window which was open about three inches, and a knife to my throat and calm as you like he says "give me your cellphone and handbag" I still remember turning to see who it was and make sure i wasnt dreaming. before i said "F&*( YOU", dropped my clutch and almost went into the car in front of me. I felt the knife slice across my neck, and could not believe it when i found that i hadnt been cut.
Now if that isnt enough confirmation that someone is looking out for me then its time for me to give up my bag and cellphone. To all my friends that are gonna be put off coming to RSA, this is not an every day occurrence to me specifically, but we need to be aware that this is the reality we llive with in South Africa and to STOP being complacent and do something about it.
I do hope that all my friends stay safe and have a good weekend

OMG Paola, that sounds sooo scary!! But believe me when I say this kind of thing happens everywhere. My son was on a parking space at night at a gas station to set his GPS and a guy gets into his car and tells him to drive him to some address somewhere. Now my son isn't that small a guy and works in an institution for criminial adolescents so he is used to some violence so he litterally kicked the guy out of his car, got out and hit him once or twice after which he took off. So it happens here in the Netherlands as well hun!! I'm so glad you got away unharmed. Hugs, Frea
ReplyDeleteOh my God! What a nightmare! I am glad you are safe!!!!

So happy you are ok, Paola. This is one of the biggest reasons not to tailgate the car in front of you. If you can see the bottom of the tires of the car ahead, you have enough room to maneuver around the car and escape. I was taught that in driving education at a young age but was reminded of it by my weapons instructor. And if you happen to run over your assailant when leaving, oh so sorry, just an added perk!
ReplyDeleteOH honey! I'm so glad that you are safe and sound without a scratch on you. You should have burned that jerks hand with your ciggy and then rolled your window up tight on him and then driven away with him hanging from your car!!! I know you don't think of these things when your attacked, you're just panicked, but it would have taught him a good lesson! So glad that you've lived to craft another day!!!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
Barb
What a scary experience! I'm sooo very glad that you are OK. Shaken, I'm sure, but OK. To bad you didn't "happen" to run over his foot when you popped the clutch! Please take care of yourself!

How frightening! I am so glad you are ok!
ReplyDeleteRene
How scary that would be!! I'm so sorry this happened to you and so glad to know you're OK!! Sending comforting hugs
ReplyDeleteSorry to read what happened Paola, but so glad to know that you're ok. You have an awesome guardian angel! Whew! Good thinking and well done for being a typical feisty South African and standing up for yourself, good for you! (Not that it always works, but in this case it did). I truly hope you are doing ok. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Paola I am so glad you are OK. Am so sorry that I have to responded sooner. Good for you girlfriend for giving him what for. You are right we have to stand up and do something and using your car as a weapon is the best thing out there. Here's a HUGE HUG from me in New Mexico. I am with Barb on her comment.
ReplyDeleteOh my God Paola, I am so sorry for what happened to you and am so glad you are okay and got out of the situation without a scratch and with your purse and cell phone.. Unfortunately it not only happens in South Africa but anywhere in the world, here in Louisiana, the USA, anywhere... so we all have to be aware and alert of our surroundings at all times. This is the real world and these are the real times.. and this is also a great big hug from me and I am so sorry I didn't see this before...
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs, Jean
Oh goodness Paola and glad to hear you are OK. I sometimes get complacent here in South Africa, but reading stories like this remind me to be more careful. Good tips about putting handbag in the boot, AND I should lock my doors too!
